As Americans, you are free to make your own choices when it comes to your health. During this Coronavirus pandemic, social connections are not the only aspects that are being tested, but also social awareness towards freedom. In this episode, Carrie Miller opens up this discussion about the social, economic, psychological, and even political aspects that are being stirred because of the pandemic. Every single day, people take risks whether they know it or not, and they make decisions to the best of their ability. The choice to adhere to government standards concerning the current situation depends on you because you have freedom as an American. In the end, we all need to ask ourselves: what is our health worth?

Social Awareness: Making Our Own Choices About Our Health
In episode twelve, we not only discussed social connection versus social isolation and creative ways to be social and find connection, but we touched on the right as an American to be free. To make your own choices when it comes to your health which leads me deep into a topic of our conversation and that would be social awareness. I’m sure many of you have read the book, The Purpose Driven Life, by Rick Warren. It is one of my all-time favorite books. Do you remember that first sentence of Chapter 1? It says, “It’s not about you.” He’s right. It’s not about me. Philippians 2:3 says, “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit but in humility, count others more significant than yourself.” It talks about catering to the needs of others rather than our own. That may mean for us to raise our own social awareness of the needs and emotions of those around us. I’m not shoving their feelings aside, but looking for ways to help and support others when they need us. Many friends and family members questioned why I speak boldly and why I choose to exercise my right in this country to preach on health specifically brain health. We live in America, the home of the free and the brave. It takes some courage to step out in faith and start this show. It’s not easy because most individuals don’t like the criticism of others, not even the slightest bit. That didn’t deter me, not one iota, not at my age.
Health Is Necessary For Life
I grew up with some hardworking parents who supported me by letting me make my own decisions. When I was younger, they didn’t coddle me. They didn’t attend everything I participated in. They didn’t do my homework. They didn’t pick up the pieces when I failed and that was called tough love and still is. I’m grateful for that, they raised me to be a strong independent thinker. Let me get back to the question. Why did I start this show? I started this show for you. It surely wasn’t to line my pockets. In fact, I don’t make a dime off podcasting. Other podcasters would frown upon that because you can make money in podcasting, no doubt. Eventually, that will come but it’s not my priority. My priority is my message. I’ve invested and continued to invest thousands of dollars in a platform that allows me to have the freedom to speak truth to others to serve you. Why? As you’ve noticed, your health is a necessity for life. If you don’t have your health, if your immune system is down, then how can you fulfill the purpose God has for you here on this Earth? I was thinking, my brain never shuts off. Maybe the freedom that we have here to make our own choices about the health may be the issue. We may be our own worst enemy. When I advocate for taking control of your own health most of you may be saying, “I’m exercising my freedom. I eat whatever I want when I want.”
Fried chicken has been a big staple in our house for years. My mama, my grandma cooked it and I’m carrying on the tradition. I’m not going to die of fried chicken. “Bless your heart,” for those of you who don’t know in the South, that little ‘bless your heart’ is nothing but pure sarcasm. Some of you don’t want to hear this, but playing ignorant is not an excuse to continue to indulge in a Southern diet will eventually harm your health in some form or fashion. I’m Southern. I still dabble in a little fried chicken every few months, especially if it’s Cane’s Chicken but it’s not as stable anymore because I’ve researched for years. It’s flat out not healthy. You know that I don’t need to tell you that, but it’s good and you want to eat it. I get it. Find a substitute or a different way of cooking that chicken, bake that chicken. If you want to have that yummy crust, then roll that chicken in some coconut flour. Dip it in some egg and then roll it in some shredded organic coconut and bake it. It’s delicious. If you don’t have coconut flour, then get it. You can get it at any large grocery store or order it online. It is amazing to me that there’s a virus out there that’s killing lots of people. Some are not looking or even open to building their immune systems. All my research dives deep into prevention.
You can teach yourself how to feed your body and brain with the right stuff so that you could have the best fight against disease and viruses while the Big Pharma comes up with the next vaccine. That’s the way easy way out. Let’s take a drug or a vaccine and hope that it works to ward off any infections or diseases. The tides have turned. If you don’t know the research and studies are out and no longer do, we have to choose Big Pharma to save us. Hallelujah on that one. I told you that we don’t sugar coat anything here. If you’re getting your feelings hurt, then this is not the show for you. I’m talking with individuals who were serious about their health because they feel like crap these days. They are unable to focus and function to their best ability. I’m talking to those of you who are willing to do what it takes to feel great again so that you not only get by day-to-day or having to worry about the next virus but you want to live your best life. A long time with your kids, grandkids and great-grandchildren. Why wouldn’t you want that? Let me give you a little secret on how to fight any virus with your own body. Dr. Axe says that our body is the greatest source of protection from the virus. The most susceptible are those who are older and whose immune systems have been compromised. Those with diabetes, heart disease, dementia, COPD, autoimmune diseases and all other various chronic diseases.
Health is a necessity for life. If you don't have your health, then how can you fulfill the purpose God has for you here on this earth? Click To TweetStrengthening Your Immune System
If you’re living in fear and anxiety, your immune system is weakened and your body will go into fight or flight response, it pumps out tremendous cortisol during that time. Lowers melatonin production and then you won’t get good sleep and in turn, that weakens your immune system long-term. There’s so much to know, to think about. The most important things to remember is your body heals itself, but know the body can only heal itself if your immune system is strengthened. Why do we continue to make this hard? Some of you believe that the vaccine is the saving grace in all this, but why do you want to poison your body with yet another prescribed drug? This hits home with me. Most of you know that my mom was on seventeen drugs at one time. She was administered, prescribed seventeen drugs for years. She had to take those on a daily basis and it shut down her brain. I don’t know about you, but I grew up playing in the dirt. Walking barefoot everywhere, eating berries and fruits of trees. We didn’t even wash them. Seldom did we wash our hands and when we did, we might have skipped that bar soap. We were from the generation of always pretending, playing house. We made mud paws with dirt and water. We always took a bath. I don’t know if you did or not, but we did. It was like a dare. I know it’s gross but that was life. We didn’t know it, but we were building our immune systems.
Dirt is good for you because it contains helpful Soil-Based Organisms, SBOs, that are teeming with active, healthy microorganisms. It treats leaky gut syndrome, which is a condition in which the lining of the small intestine becomes damaged. It allows toxic waste products, bacteria, and undigested food particles to get into the bloodstream. Have you stopped to look at life differently since the virus sent us to camp out in our homes? I hope so. I hope you were saying no to this absurd, false narrative that staying inside your home is the best thing you can do. I’m here to speak truth to you, always. I’m not here to argue or spew false information ever because I have nothing to lose. No practice, no bonuses coming to me. No, “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine.” I’m here for you because I care. Let’s look at most of our lives in the past couple of months. Most of you don’t leave your homes. Many of you are wearing a mask of some sort that you think keeps you from getting the virus. Some of you are going to the extreme. My daughter told me that she saw a lady in the store with a Clorox wipe on her nose. Does she not know that wipey is putting toxins in her body? Did she even think about researching what chemicals were in that wipey and how they harm her health? When I was making my weekly trip to the grocery store and the lady stopped, pointed at me and shouted, “Stop right there. You need to stay 6 feet away from me.”
For those of you who are fixing to judge me for telling that story, let me mention to you, for those of you who are in that are scared of this virus, then maybe you would feel more comfortable sending someone else to the store. Ask a neighbor. They would be more than willing to pick up a few items for you. I’ve had people run from me in the store because I was wearing no mask or gloves in public. I don’t wear them ever. I have no reason to. I believe that every single day of our lives, we take the risk whether we know it or not. We make decisions to the best of our ability. We get to choose what we wear, what we put in and on our bodies and what we believe. We don’t live in a country full of dictators. We live in a place of freedom because of individuals like my grandfather who fought for our liberties, the Constitution, the right for free speech. We have a choice in this nation and we get to exercise that right. I’m extremely proud to be an American and I hope that you are too. My prayer would be that you are not turning your back on learning all about health, especially your immune system during this Coronavirus. What should you be doing or not doing? You do the research. Why are you allowing corrupt individuals to make those decisions for you? Each of us has our own story.
Only we know the condition of our own health. It only stands to reason that you make the choice of whether to walk outside your home or not. If you’re healthy if you know that your immune system is up and believe me, you know because you’ve been actively pursuing a healthy lifestyle or not. You feel good, you look good, and more than likely you have no underlying health conditions to your knowledge. Maybe you should be asking yourself. If I’m the one who leads in this family, then what decisions do I need to be making? If you’re single, then what do you need to be doing to keep your immune system healthy? If you’re passive and you’re sweeping everything under the rug because you want to keep the peace then learns to lead. This is certainly not the time to turn the cheek. God has given you an amazing responsibility of leading your family in all areas including health. Please don’t be using ignorance as an excuse here. You set the example. Maybe it’s your responsibility to be looking at the data, the science, and even perhaps digging deep into the people who are calling the shots. At first, when this whole Wuhan virus started, I thought to myself, “Am I the only person on this Earth that is not going along with this narrative, a virus supposedly that was projected to kill millions?” I knew people were going to judge me, but I didn’t care.
You don't isolate people who are healthy. If this isolation is a long-term solution, then our health would suffer. Click To TweetWhy Isolate When Healthy
Anybody who knows me knows that I’m an independent thinker. I’m simply not a follower. I do my own research and I do not take people’s word at face value nor should you. When it comes to your own help, you should be looking at all the data and science to determine your own conclusions. When they said we all need to stay home, then I questioned because you don’t isolate people who are healthy. It’s never been done in history and I knew if this isolation was a long-term solution, then our health would suffer. We were created for a connection to love, touch, and hold each other. When they said we needed to wear masks and gloves when going out to public places, I questioned because the only time I wear a mask and gloves is when I’m cutting cedars on our land. They told us that we needed to use social distancing of 6 feet when going to the grocery store. I had to question that, “Why 6 feet? Why the 8-foot-tall plastic wall between the cashier and me? Why did everybody all of a sudden stop talking to each other in lines?” I don’t know about your state, but here in Texas, we talk to everybody and anybody who will listen to us, especially us girls. If you don’t converse back, then you’re considered a little not nice. It’s your loss because if you think about it long and hard, there’s always the possibility of being blessed by the spoken word, awareness.
I looked around and noticed there was a shortage of customer service. I stopped in at Buc-ee’s. We’ve got Buc-ee’s. We are blessed. I was aware that they were short on staff. When I asked the young lady behind the counter if employees had been laid off because I noticed there was hardly anybody in the store, she told me that all the employees’ hours were cut from 40 hours to 24 hours. When I heard that, I started thinking about single parents or widows who needed that income to survive. It hit close to home with me because I was a single mom for years. It was feast or famine in our home. I remember like it was yesterday. I’ve spoken to small business owners who had to close shop because they had no food items in their store. What did they do? They went and grabbed food at the closest wholesale food store and added it to their shelves so that they wouldn’t be fined or closed yet for another month. Think about that. They had to come out of pocket once again. They had already lost tremendous business because the country decided to shut its doors over the virus. I understand them doing that. In the beginning, we didn’t know much about the virus, but not now. People are hurting. There are people who are starving. I had a business for years of selling ceramics to shops all across the US.
Taking A Risk
I feel for artists and small business owners who are losing their livelihoods to what? Why are we shutting down the whole country? Still, I questioned for weeks and months. I called our state leaders including Governor Abbott’s Office. I wrote emails, but no responses. We are in a recession and I personally knew that if we continued, we would be headed for a downpouring of depression, suicide, child abuse. You name it because people need to live independently, not be controlled 24/7. Where do we live? We live in the great USA. I agree that we need to be protecting our elders and those who have underlying health issues who are fully capable of making the call for their own health. If they choose to take the risk of contracting the virus when going out in public, then that’s their choice, their freedom. Throughout history, we’ve had countless viruses and diseases, but this is the first lockdown ever in history. What made this one unique? Did you question or believe in what they were saying to take the necessary steps to ensure that you didn’t get the virus? Let’s all think. Did you perhaps do everything possible they told you and you still got the virus? Did a loved one die of the virus? It’s called taking a risk every single day. When we get in the car, we take the risk of getting into a wreck. When we eat at a restaurant, we take the risk of getting food poisoning. When we smoke, we take the risk of emphysema.
When we feed our bodies unhealthy foods, stress ourselves out and fill our bodies with toxins, we take the risk of chronic disease. Those are killers. That’s a fact. There’s no way around that one. Do you think for one minute that someone else who knows nothing about you or your health is necessarily giving you the best advice? Working in your best interest, working in the best interest of the people because as you may know there’s an epidemic of chronic disease all over the world, but are we all in an uproar over that? Are the government or medical professionals, the World Health Organization and the CDC giving us mandatory orders for that? Are they shutting down people’s livelihood for chronic disease? You know the statistics out there. I mentioned it in every single episode, millions and millions of people are dying a year because of chronic disease. It’s mind-blowing. I’m always asking, “Why don’t more individuals care about the prevention of disease?” Maybe we wouldn’t be having these discussions we’re having. Do people live day-to-day disconnected from the data and the facts and science that surrounds data? How many are aware that we’re losing our rights to freedom speech? If you haven’t noticed there are YouTube channels and other social media platforms being censored because it doesn’t align with their agenda. Maybe you should be asking, “What agenda?” That’s for you to research. I’m not going to answer that.
Are you choosing to sit back and wait on God? Heaven forbid you to get into discussion or debate, that’s uncomfortable. You better get over that because there’s no way around it. If you live here on this Earth, it’s going to happen. Sometimes we take for granted our freedoms in this country, which they will always be there. If you haven’t noticed, those rights are being taken away little by little. As an American, as a believer, I refuse to sit back and be silent, watch our freedom disappear without a fight. We, the people, need to wake up and quit living in our bubbles and get out and speak truth to individuals. You’ve got incredible amounts of information thrown at you 24/7 since America’s locked down with this Coronavirus. What are you doing with the information? Are you turning a blind eye-rolling over, playing dead or do you want to say, “I’m going to sit back and do everything I was told by these experts on my TV. I don’t know anything about any of these viruses and how they work, nor do I even know anything about my own body or this thing called the immune system because I have no interest in science whatsoever.” It’s a lot easier to let someone else call the shots. After all, they are considered experts and I don’t know much about staying healthy. They sound professional and they sound like they know what they’re talking about.
What’s Your Health Worth?
All those millionaires, gazillionaires and high-fleet organizations coming to our rescue, they are the ones who are going to save us. They will be our heroes. Tell me you’re not saying that or even thinking it because that is exactly what they want you to believe that they are the saviors of this world, that they have all the answers because why? You might look a little deeper. Maybe you’ve chosen not to do the research for yourself and your loved ones and those of you who have, I am proud of you. It’s hard work and extremely time-consuming, but what’s your health worth? I have to tell you, my health has not always been important to me. I grew up on bread and sugar, pancakes and syrup. All that pure processed food diet, that’s addictive and not good for the immune system. I have a mama who’s sitting in a memory care home with dementia. We’re going on fourteen years and she’s still alive. You want to go check out her story on episode one and it’s an amazing story. It’s yet another reason why I do what I do. You can say that I have a good reason for staying healthy, especially doing what I need to do to keep my body and brain healthy. Have you ever thought about why you would want to stay healthy? You might have a good enough reason.
After all, we’ve gone to some extreme measures to isolate everyone temporarily but long-term, what’s your plan? There will always be the next virus that comes along. What are you going to do to build your own immune system so that you can be at your healthiest to support others? Are you going to share the information with your neighbor, family member or friend for prevention? Are you going to keep it to yourself? If I know you, you will share it with everyone you come in contact with because we, as a nation, care for each other. We don’t want people sick and dying. We are socially aware of others because that’s how God created us. We are connected creatures of habit, whether you recognize it or not, we not only look out for ourselves, but we have an innate ability to look beyond ourselves and reach out to individuals who need our help and our support. You might ask yourself, “Am I in a place where I need to be when it comes to my health so that I can serve others? This life here on Earth, it’s not about me.” Thank you all so much for reading. Stay tuned to the next episode. We’re going to give you the hard facts about the food you’re eating and what I serve around here on My Texas Table. You will not want to miss it. I might even throw in some of my healthy recipes, so you don’t want to miss out. I’ll see you next time.
