What do y’all think about when you see the word “time”. Do you feel like asking, “Where has the time gone?”
You mommas out there, can y’all remember the birth of your first baby, and how you felt? Oh gosh, I do. For me it just seems like yesterday that I was pregnant with my first child, Stefan. I can recall every small detail of that delivery 29 years ago. I can remember I was in labor for 13 excruciating hours. Goodness gracious alive!
My friend, Becky, delivered her first child, Miles, 6 days prior to Stefan. After delivering Miles, she said, “Oh, Carrie it was nothing…it was a breeze. I was in labor for only 3 hrs. I delivered Miles naturally with no epidural! In fact, I’m still laying here on the delivery table.” I mean, really Becky?!! You just had a baby, and you were able to just roll over and pick up the phone and answer it like it was nothin’? Well, first of all, I just want to thank Becky for painting that pretty picture for me of her quick delivery. For some ridiculous reason, I truly believed mine would be the same. It obviously was a piece of cake for her, but oh no….not me!
When it came time for Stefan to be delivered, the pushing began and it went on and on and on… (well, it seemed like it did anyway, because I had that fierce epidural that numbed me.) Since there was no sight of Stefan yet, the doctor was on the verge of performing a C-section. Stefan was obviously “stuck”. As a last resort the doctor used forceps and a suction cup to pull his head out.
Soon after my precious boy was delivered, the doctor raised him up in the air to show him off like most doctors do to get their photo with the baby. I went from an excited momma to a deflated momma. I immediately asked the doctor “Is he okay?” Stefan had a double cone head from being in the birth canal so long, and he looked like an alien…seriously.
Now for all you mommas out there who are freakin’out about now, he turned out just fine. The nurses took baby Stefan away to the next room, and about an hour later they brought him back to me with a perfect little head. I mean, I’m not joking…it was perfectly round.
Well, you know what was going through my mind, right?! I looked at that nurse with a very seriously look and said, “Are you sure this is my baby, because a little while ago, he looked like something out of a horror movie.” (Now, y’all I didn’t really say that, but I was thinkin’ it!) The nurse told me that she had “molded” Stefan’s head down with her hands. She literally shaped it into a little round ball, because you know at birth the skull is moldable. Well, that’s what they told me anyway. That’s just flat out weird to me. Have y’all ever heard of such a thing?! Let me know in the comment section if you’ve ever…..
Well, what a memory. Stefan was a gift from God, and today, he’s a beautiful son inside and out.
